The month of June was dominated by the Pride movement - also at AWI! As a research institute, we are committed to diversity and equality. We live and promote diversity step by step.

Dear readers,
shortly before the summer break, we are back with a new issue of our newsletter. At AWI, we are committed to diversity and equality - in all our areas.. During Pride Month in June, we also communicated this to the outside world by flying visible Pride flags at our locations. A great sign!
A diverse team is also currently working on a common goal on board our research icebreaker Polarstern: over the next two months, 51 scientists from 14 nations want to investigate why the Arctic sea ice is melting and what consequences this has for us. Follow the expedition in our Polarstern app.
While the temperatures are also rising here, there are many outdoor events in the summer months where the AWI is represented with a stand. Come along and find out more about our research work.
Last but not least, we have some great news: By popular demand, there is now an official AWI merchandise online shop! From now on you can stock up on merchandise related to the Alfred Wegener Institute.
Enjoy reading and have a nice summertime!

The latest Polarstern expedition is off to explore ice floe types from the past, present and future: Over the next two months, an international research team will analyse the feedback effects between global warming and sea ice retreat in the Arctic Ocean. The investigations will focus on the differences in the melting of various sea ice types – representing the Arctic of the past decades, the present and the future.
